Promoting waste sorting behavior

Although we might care about the environment, contextual barriers often keep us from behaving accordingly. For example, our perception of the behavior of others or the psychological distance between the behavior and the moment we actually feel the effects of environmental problems.

We’ve partnered with an environmental communication agency and the public authorities in the North of Portugal to design behavioral policies to encourage people to sort their organic waste and do composting. The latest results show that over 13.000 families from the municipality where we implemented the behaviorally-informed policy have acquired either home waste separation or home composting sets.
